Welcome to downtown Lincoln, Illinois. In the center of the webcam photo below is the Logan County Courthouse constructed in 1903 and is the centerpiece of downtown Lincoln. On this very site in the mid 1800's, Abraham Lincoln practiced law in the two courthouses that preceeded this one until his run for President in 1860. Abraham Lincoln also practiced law in the Postville Courthouse which is located on the western side of Lincoln. The courthouse is surrounded by many old and architecturally ornate buildings that house shops, offices, restaurants, and other businesses. Some of these buildings date back to Abraham Lincoln's time here in the 1850's and 1860's.

Also visible in the webcam photo (right side) is the Civil War Monument. This monument was built in 1869 as a memorial to all the soldiers from Logan County that fought in the Civil War. Inscribed on the lower column of the monument are the names of the soldiers that lost their lives in battle. Due to its age, some of the names are no longer legible, but plaques located at its base show a large collection of the original names. In the late winter of 2008, a storm blew through and toppled the 6 foot tall soldier that stood atop of the monument. Efforts are currently being made to restore the damaged monument.
